Baking is Good for Mental Health And Self-Empowerment

Image
The co-pay is the just cost of ingredients when you use baking as therapy. While not a fix for serious mental health issues, baking cakes, cookies, breads, and other goodies can help you ease anxiety and stress. Talk about flour power: Mounting scientific evidence proves that baking is one of the best forms of self-care. Even mental health pros swear by the therapeutic effects: “I consider this one of my greatest mental health strategies. I have declared Sunday ‘baking day’ for more than 15 years of my life," says Tracy Thomas, Ph.D., psychologist and founder of Dr. Tracy Inc., an emotional training company in California. "I go into a baking zone for a whole day and just bake my buns off, pun intended,” Thomas says. But why, exactly, is baking so good for your brain, your mood, and beyond? Preheat your ovens and read on for the top six reasons from Thomas and Nicole Beurkens, Ph.D., author of the best selling book Life Will Get Better and the founder and director of Horizon...

Potentially Habitable, Earth-sized World Planet Discovered!

Image
Michelle Kunimoto has a knack for finding exoplanets, or planets that orbit stars outside of our solar system. The University of British Columbia astronomy student found four while she worked on her undergraduate degree. Now a doctoral candidate, she has discovered an additional 17 planets by poring over data from NASA's Kepler mission, which ended in 2018. One is found within the habitable zone of its star. The distance allows for temperatures and conditions that could be right for liquid water -- and life -- to be on the surface. Potentially habitable exoplanets are of particular interest to Kunimoto and her research. A study including her findings was published Thursday in The Astronomical Journal. "This planet is about a thousand light years away, so we're not getting there anytime soon!" said Kunimoto in a statement. "But this is a really exciting find, since there have only been 15 small, confirmed planets in the Habitable Zone found in Kepler data so far...

During times like these, it’s important to keep an eye out for the most vulnerable among us, and in the case of the coronavirus pandemic, that means older adults who are at a higher risk of developing serious complications from COVID-19. Whether they’re our grandparents, friends, or neighbors, we all probably have an older adult in our lives who could use a little help right now. Here are 8 ways to step up for them during the pandemic. 1. Minimize your risk. Keeping your loved ones safe starts with keeping yourself safe. What To Buy Your Grandma If She’s The Most Stereotypical Unconditionally Loving Awesome Woman In Your Life.

Image
Grandparents are always special whether we are thirty years old or just three. They entertain us with their tales full of wisdom (or sometimes inappropriate humor), fancy cartoon stories, become the elephant for our kiddish elephant rides (provided we’re not too heavy), take us to fantastic places our parents won’t allow us to go to, tolerate our tantrums and best of all they stand with us when our parents scold us. Yes! Grandparents are the reason we feel so loved and pampered. The constant nurturers of our childhood and future; grandparents are the people who always play with us like a child. After all that they do for us, it is indeed impossible to give back anything of any value that may requite the love and blessing they shower upon us. But with gifts, a little gesture of love is proclaimed and it doesn’t go in vain.  And Grandmas are especially our favorite because they instill in us the right balance of naughtiness and goodness to teach us the value of not taking life too se...
